DESCRIPTION

Congenital glaucoma is caused by abnormal development of the draining angle of the eye.

DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA

Symptoms:

  • Tearing
  • Photophobia
  • Blepharospasm

Signs:

  • Enlarged eye (buphthalmos or “cow eye” appearance)
  • Corneal haziness (due to corneal oedema or scarring)
  • Optic disc cupping
  • Raised intraocular pressure

REFERRAL

Urgent (to ophthalmologist):

  • All patients.
